This Neutral Gilded Quilled Mandala is created with a mixture of regular and gilded papers - all 1/8" deep. The outer rings are a silver-gilded white paper, and two rows in from those are "hearts" created with gold-gilded black Dutch paper. The inner most coil is a silver-gilded black paper. All the other rows are created with neutrals of gray, cream, white, dark gray, and black. Sometimes artwork looks beautiful even when you don't use flashy, bright colors. This was the goal I had in mind when I created this mandala. I think it'll work well in an environment where you want something elegant to look at on the wall without it being overpowering. It comes framed inside a gorgeous white, double-matted, floating gallery frame that is 12x12" in diameter. Mandala itself is roughly 7.5" in diameter. See more mandalas that I've created here.
If you're interested in trying out the gilded paper for yourself, please check out JJ Quilling in London. I know, I know... it seems like it being so far away would make it impossible to buy with high shipping costs. That's actually not true. The shipping is reasonable enough that if you buy in bulk, you won't suffer shipping shock! They also cut their gilded paper in custom widths. Don't make my mistake and wrongly convert 1/4" into 5mm! 1/4" is actually 6mm. That little typo cost me an entire shipment of paper! Well, it didn't really "cost" me - but it makes it more difficult to work the odd width strips into my normal artwork. Now I'm dreaming of special ways to use it so that I can finish off that batch and buy the correct width!
