Quilled Lady’s Slipper
a.k.a. Ladyslipper or Lady Slipper Orchid
I used to think that Lady’s Slippers were rare. Then I moved onto a piece of land deep in the woods in Maine and discovered that my property is literally blanketed with them. Each late spring, early summer, I cannot wait to see them bloom. Almost everywhere I go I can find a patch, some with over 20+ plants. I think there have been times I’ve counted several hundred on my rustic old firelane and in the scrub brush between my lawn and the woods. A few years back, my father even took me on a trek into the woods to show me a white Lady’s Slipper he’d found. I’d never seen one before and may never again, because that color is particularly rare.
I created this quilling pattern as a tribute to the beautiful flower that makes me feel so fuzzy inside when I see it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
