After making a raven in flight for a local customer, I decided that I would create an entire line of raven quillings. This is the first raven in the line that will eventually feature two ravens in flight, two perched, and two standing. They will be available through my Etsy store.
I really love the form of the raven and I think that it makes a stunning quilling because it’s one of the few times you can get away with using a single color and have it truly work.
This raven was made with 1/4″ quilling strips. The background is white, 140lb coldpressed watercolor paper. The wings were created with a combing technique.
Another raven I recently created for a customer. This one is in flight as requested. It’s hard to imagine how long these actually take because they look so simple with just a few quills total. That is the deceiving part. They take a few hours to get just right.
Ravens and crows are my favorite birds. My house is filled with them from plates to towels to wall decor. They are an amazing animal and incredibly intelligent. Plus, black goes with everything!
