Bright Rainbow Burst Quilled Letter B Monogram
Last night and tonight’s project was a bright rainbow burst quilled letter B monogram. Say that three times fast! It’s kind of a tongue twister. Oh, the things we write for the sake of SEO.
This monogram is 8×10 and was made very simple with a boucle technique for the fill inside the letter, open spiral coils for the bulk of the “burst” pattern, and some tiny tight coils (glued) on the outer edges to give the illusion of the pattern scattering out towards the edge of the paper.
I actually dry-fit this piece three times before settling on this pattern. The first time I tried a graduated rainbow with each of the same color in groups blending to the next but it left large chunks of high contrast colors against each other and didn’t look the way I’d intended.
My second attempt started with removing all the quills, putting them into a ziplok bag, and shaking them. The I dumped them onto the B and placed them basically where they fell. It was really attractive, but again, not exactly what I wanted.
So, I began pulling each individual color out and making groups of them. Then I set them into a rainbow grouping and realized that they’d look good in sections of similar colors, arranged as a sort of blended rainbow. This is the end result.
I used all the large coils first and filled in the interior. Then as I approached the edge of the paper I scattered smaller size coils until it had the desired look. I may go back over this tomorrow evening for some touch-up, but I don’t think it’ll change much.
I decided against leaving the body of the B empty. I felt like it needed to be filled in as well, but with a continuous and unobtrusive pattern. Hence the boucle.
As always, this piece was created using Quilled Creations tools and paper. They sell the highest quality papers that produce the best results possible.
