Peacock Theme Quilled Letter R Monogram
This peacock theme quilled letter R monogram is a result of my February Pin It To Win It contest! A lovely lady told me she wanted her monogram to incorporate peacocks and this is what happened.
I had recently done a daisy monogram and thought that I could use a similar technique with peacock feathers. The end result (though not entirely finished at the time this picture was taken) was more than I had hoped for.
I had to make a few attempts at the actual feathers. Not because I messed them up, but I wanted the right size and color combination. I ended up using Dark Blue, Medium Blue, Fuchsia, Red, Bright Green, Medium Green. The sizes were (in order as seen above) 1/8 strip, 1/4 strip, 1/8 strip, 1/2 strip, 1/2 strip, 1/2 strip. All using Quilled Creations solid quilling paper which I believe is around 17″ in length.
I glued them together and let them dry, then I wound them up on my slotted quilling tool. I released the coil slowly until it was roughly 1.25″ in diameter, then glued it.
I placed it on my foam board and pinned it into shape, then gave the end a firm pinch to create a slight angle. Then I applied glue to the entire surface so it would keep its oblong shape.
I drew the outline of the monogram onto 140lb, white watercolor paper, then dry-fit the feathers. Once I was happy with their placement, I erased the lines that they covered so the light blue pencil didn’t show through. Then I glued down all the peacock feathers.
I outlined the rest of the monogram using 1/4″ strips of medium green.
The interior fill of the letter body was doing using a boucle/beehive/popcorn/continuous scroll technique as shown in a video I made recently.
I added wispy strips of 1/4″ medium green to the feather tips and shaft.
That’s pretty much all it took to create this beautiful peacock theme quilled letter R monogram. I hope you enjoy it!
