Quilled Letter T Monogram
A wonderful client of mine commissioned this monogram last Christmas. She requested a patriotic theme and this is what it resulted in.
Part of the difficulty in quilling for a living is balancing the design (aka time involved) with the price. More often than not quilling a piece takes longer than expected and my goal was to develop a monogram technique that allowed me to price my monograms reasonably while also not ending up spending an enormous amount of time creating them so that both me and my client were simultaneously happy.
What I came up with were swirled monograms. With this technique, the longest part of the process is the outline, and, I can work up the swirls very quickly while I’m watching TV. Assembly is just a matter of fitting them into a pleasing pattern and gluing them down. They always come out a little different, even if I’m making the same letters and I always try to add a personal touch to them. In this case I formed two tailed scrolls into the shape of a heart in the upper left hand corner and fanned out single strips along the center. It breaks up the design and adds a lot of interest to the piece.
